Ozone Water Facts
Ozone water is measured by the dissolved ozone suspended in the water. The form of measurement used is Parts Per Million (PPM), the industry standard.
Ozone Water and Microbes: A PPM of 0.5 dissolved ozone is typically considered a good sterilizing agent. Higher concentrations can neutralize microbes with even greater effect. A good way to categorize ozone water would be as follows:
Low strength: 0.5 – 1 PPM
Medium strength: 2 – 3 PPM
High strength: 4+ PPM
The chart below shows several different microbes and the suggested concentrations to sterilize them effectively. On average most microbes including viruses will quickly be eliminated using ozone water at 2ppm or higher. Contact time plays an important role, so the stronger the ozone water, the less contact time is needed to eliminate the microbe.
